Board and Management
The multi-disciplined Board of Directors and the Senior Management of Coogee Resources have considerable experience in the oil and gas industry.
The Perth office comprises 35 specialist employees and is headed by Peter Hood, José Martins and Andy Jacob.
Approximately 100 offshore operating staff are currently working on the Challis and Jabiru ventures, and in recent months the company has put in place an experienced project team to manage the Montara Project.

Gordon Martin

Non-Executive Director and Chairman
Mr Martin was appointed Chairman of the Company on its formation in July 2005 and has 35 years of experience in industry. He has spent most of his working life in the chemical and resource industries with Coogee Chemicals, a private company where he is the majority shareholder and Executive Chairman. He has also been a director of listed companies Burswood Ltd and United Group Ltd. Mr Martin was the inaugural WA State President and a past National Vice President of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and was awarded the WA AICD 2005 Gold Medal Award in recognition of his achievements in the business and wider community. Mr Martin has recently been appointed Chancellor of Curtin University. Mr Akehurst was appointed to the Board in March 2006 and has 30 years experience in the international hydrocarbon industry. Mr Akehurst held a number of engineering and management positions with the Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies, as Managing Director and CEO of Woodside Petroleum Ltd for 7 years and a director of Oil Search Ltd. Mr Akehurst is a director of CSL Ltd, Biostarch Technologies Ltd, Alinta Ltd, University of Western Australia Business School and of Youth Focus, a charitable organisation dedicated to the prevention of youth suicide. Mr Akehurst is a member of the Risk and Audit Committee and Chairman of the Health, Safety and Environment Committee and a member of the Oil and Gas Exploration Committee. Executive Director - Chief Executive Officer
Mr Hood was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Company on its formation in July 2005 after 7 years as Chief Executive Officer of Coogee Chemicals. Mr Hood has over 35 years experience in the development of projects in the resources and chemicals industries and is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. Mr Hood is a director of Coogee Chemicals, the Vice Chairman of the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association Ltd (APPEA), Chairman of the APPEA Health Safety and Operations Committee and a Director of the West Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
José Martins BAcc, CA(SA)
Executive Director - Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary
Mr Martins was appointed to the Board in March 2006. Mr Martins is currently the Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of Coogee Resources Limited and has over 20 years experience in the financial management of public and private companies in Western Australia including over 10 years as Chief Financial Officer or Company Secretary for listed resource companies including Resolute Resources Ltd, Hunter Resources Ltd and Barrack Mines Ltd. Mr Martins has also gained experience in corporate finance and advisory within Australian broking firms. Mr Allen was appointed to the Board in October 2006, after over 30 years in the international oil and gas industry with BP and BHP Billiton. Mr Allen gained extensive experience in technical geoscience evaluation and exploration management roles in BP, with a focus on Australia, SE Asia and Latin America. At BHP Billiton, he was an adviser on the global exploration program and Chief Geologist, before spending 7 years as Head of Strategy for the Petroleum division. Mr High was appointed to the Board in March 2006. Mr High is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Clough Services and brings significant international experience having worked in the resource and infrastructure industries for over 30 years. Previously, Mr High held the position of Managing Director of United Construction in Australia, and in the past has held President or Managing Director roles in Kvaerner Oil and Gas in the UK and USA, as well as John Brown Engineers and Constructors in Aberdeen, London, Europe and South Africa. Mr Martin was appointed to the Board of Coogee Resources on its formation in July 2005. He has been a Coogee Chemicals board member since 2000 and is Executive Manager of Human Resources. Mr Parkin was appointed to the Board in March 2006. Mr Parkin is currently Associate Dean of Business and Professor of Accounting at the University of Notre Dame Australia, based in Fremantle. Mr Parkin is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee of Austal Ltd and is a national board member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Previously Mr Parkin was an Audit Partner of Ernst & Young and Arthur Andersen and he brings over 30 years of experience in auditing and financial consulting in a wide range of industries. Mr Scalia is a Senior Executive of the Australian Infrastructure & Project Finance Group based in the Melbourne office. Mr Scalia specialises in the energy and natural resources sector undertaking development of a broad range of assets including green-field gas fired power generation , renewable energy and upstream oil & gas.
Max joined Babcock & Brown Asia Pacific in 2001 initially based in Malaysia and returned to the Melbourne office in 2004. Prior to joining Babcock & Brown, Max was a partner with Fieldstone Private Capital Group and a Director of its Asian operations undertaking advisory and development assignments in Malaysia, Philippines, India, Thailand and China over a 10 year period. Previously Mr Scalia was with Rothschild Australia Limited and as an engineer with leading Australian engineering organizations including John Holland.

Warren Murphy BE (Honours), B Com
Alternate to Max Scalia representing Babcock & Brown International
Mr Murphy is Co-Head Australian Infrastructure and Head of Australian Energy in the Infrastructure & Project Finance group at Babcock & Brown, based in the Sydney office. Mr Murphy has led the development of Babcock & Brown's energy sector capability in Australia and New Zealand. He is a director of the ASX listed Babcock & Brown Wind Partners Limited, Babcock & Brown Power and Sydney Gas.
Mr Murphy has led the development of Redbank, Oakey, NewGen Kwinana, Braemar and Uranqunity power stations, and the co-development of a number of renewable energy projects, including the Alinta and Lake Bonney wind farms. Mr Murphy joined Babcock & Brown in 1997. Prior to joining Babcock & Brown, Mr Murphy was a director of the project finance division of AIDC and before that worked at Westpac Banking Corporation.

Mr Jacob has over 25 years experience as an engineer in the oil and gas industry working in the UK, Netherlands, Arabian Gulf, Italy, Singapore and Australia. Mr Jacob has held positions in the Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies, Wharton Williams Taylor and was the Vice President for Bluewater Offshore Production Systems. Mr Jacob was relocated to Western Australia in 1991 with Dawson Brown and Root as Manager Engineering Projects. Mr Jacob held senior management roles with several companies before joining Newfield International (Australia) in September 1999.
Ian Paton BSc (Honours), M Pet Eng (Houston University), MBA
Subsurface Manager
Mr Paton has spent over 30 years in petroleum development and exploration beginning his career as a geophysicist with BHP Limited. Mr Paton joined Santos Ltd as Development and Exploration Manager in 1980, worked in the US with Conoco in 1990 and returned to Australia to become the Technical Director of Amity Oil. Mr Paton joined Coogee Resources in 2005.
Christy Breadmore BA, LLB
Legal Counsel
Ms Breadmore has 8 years experience in an in-house legal role in the oil and gas industry. Ms Breadmore joined Gulf Australia in 1998 which became Newfield International (Australia), the predecessor to Coogee Resources. Ms Breadmore’s responsibilities at Coogee Resources cover the legal, contracting, insurance and risk management, regulatory compliance and joint venture management functions.
Duncan Clegg BSc Civil & Structural Engineering (Honours) PhD Soil Mechanics (Cantab)
Projects Manager
Dr Clegg has over 30 years experience as an engineer in the oil and gas industry working in the Netherlands, Spain, Malaysia and Australia with various companies including Conoco North Sea Inc and Shell International Petroleum. The last 9 years were spent with Woodside Energy Ltd where he held a number of positions including Engineering Manager (Northern Australia Gas Venture), Project Manager (Legendre), General Manager Oil Developments and most recently as Business Unit Director for Oil, Africa and the North West Shelf Venture business units. Dr Clegg joined Coogee Resources in October 2006.
